How to Design a Light and Sound Brainwave Frequency Session:
How to Design a Light and Sound Brainwave Frequency Session
Thirty years ago very few people realized the potential of personal light and sound machines in terms of the benefits users gained through using their unit. A lot has changed, awareness has spread, and with that an understanding that learning to attain a specific brainwave stateof mind, at will, improves performance and wellbeing.
Light and sound session design is both mathematical and an art form. Most of all, designing takes patience. Making a session work well is important. This is best done through refinement.
Putting in a lot of time is also necessary. Experience helps too. Only lots of practice will get you there.
Session design is like writing a song. Being a session designer is like being a virtuoso of the light and sound instrument. There are some basic rules for the format, like “beta is NOT for relaxation”, but session design is truly a scientific art form. The rules of design are based on brainwave frequency ranges and how they correspond to various states of mind. Pitch and tonality of sound also have an impact on the mind and are important to session design. To make a great session a lot of trial and refinement is involved. Testing sessions on several individuals and getting EEG’s done is a great way to do it.
There are some people out there who claim to be experts and will tell you that you should never try writing your own sessions. That is total BS. Why did you buy a programmable machine in the first place? Don’t expect a masterpiece on your first try. But with common sense and effort you will come up with something. It might be fun and enlightening. Why not try?
Here are two undisputable facts to keep in mind:
1. No educational institution in the world offers a doctorate degree (or any other degree for that matter) in “AVS Light and Sound Mind Machine Programming”.
2. A Ph.D. in Psychology does not make someone an expert in Audio Visual Stimulation session design. It makes that person a doctor of Psychology and the two are not the same.
Audio Visual Stimulation devices are often referred to as AVS or light and sound “instruments”, and like a guitar or piano you just need to learn how to “play” them. There is no school that can teach this. There are no college or graduate classes to take. You just have to study, experiment, and teach yourself.
What you need is a good working knowledge of the brainwave frequency ranges, an understanding of the effects different audio pitches can have on the mind, a desire to do something special, and the discipline to revise your work over and over until you get it right. I am a much better session designer than I was even a few years ago, because experience and practice cause continual improvement in any technique or skill.
It is also important to note that not all individuals will respond exactly the same to any given session. Certain sessions will work better for certain individuals. That is why you find a varied library of sessions in your machine. While you may have your favorites, you should know that other people will select totally different sessions as their favorites. I know this is true because I hear from lots of people who tell me about their favorite sessions.

Using Light and Sound Stimulation for Successfully Correcting Impaired Sensory Integration12/19/2018
Using Light and Sound Stimulation for Successfully Correcting Impaired Sensory Integration:
Using Light and Sound Stimulation for Successfully Correcting Impaired Sensory Integration
A large percentage of people cannot process certain sounds enough to process them for understanding and use. Many children and adults have learning difficulties or behavioral challenges that do not totally fall into any diagnostic profile. Some seem to appear attention deficit, others personality disordered and still others are just “out of sync”. All have problems that originate in impaired sensory integration. These impairments include poor motor development, visual development lags, auditory processing disorders, difficult learning and strained interpersonal relationships. A milieu approach developed to diminish difficulties should include light and sound stimulation, vestibular stimulation therapy, visual perceptual training, brain synchronization and nutritional intervention.
Dr. Jean Ayres, one of the leading pioneers studying the concept of sensory integration, felt that all our senses must work equally. In other words, our sense of touch, taste, smell, sight and sound must work together and these five senses, along with movement and body awareness, must work in harmony.
Ayres beliefs center on the thought that the senses send information gathered to the brain where it is interpreted and organized. This is what is called “sensory integration”. According to Ayres, “if a sensory input fails and does not work in harmony with the others, the learning process and quality of life are compromised.” She also believed that the vestibular system was responsible for body control and that well-modulated vestibular activity is mandatory for maintaining a calm, relaxed state.
Some people must stimulate their brains through constant moving. These individuals are labeled hyperactive and many medicated to stop the movement. This then, delays the continuing development that is necessary for adequate function. Many of these individuals have auditory processing difficulties. Some experienced loud shouting, mechanical noises, screaming or physical abuse as children and now “shut out” certain hearing frequencies. This defense mechanism, useful when it was needed, proves difficult to surrender later in life when sound is necessary for normal daily living. The survival need continues into adulthood without discovery, making many therapies difficult and non-progressive. It is imperative that “talk therapies” and the like realize that auditory processing may not be taking place and visualization may be the modality that could prove to be more successful. In such cases, the use of a light and sound alpha program will improve the client’s ability to use visual recall.
Learning requires focus. Complete focus is difficult when hearing is controlled by bone conduction only. Hearing is a function of the entire body, not ears only. The bones of the body are particularly good sound conductors, actually, too good. Loud noises, loud voices are particularly distracting to those who “hear” every sound in their environment. Rooms in schools or the workplace extremely noisy for the person who cannot screen sounds and can hear everything. All these sounds are abusive and the individual immediately shuts out all sound for protection. Thus, any auditory input is cancelled and the person is left to try to decide what is happening. Without auditory guidance behavior suffers and the lack of ability to focus is augmented.
In an auditory processing disorder sound is heard but the act of processing through the brain is impaired. The sounds are transmitted directly to the inner ear without any filter to dampen the intensity thus the sounds arrive in the brain without warning and produce a reflex reaction. A startle-reflex, physically lashing out, or anger can result. People experiencing this bombardment of sound have no ability to “tune out” extraneous noise around them. Every sound has the same amount of value. They try to catch a word but the noise from somewhere else distracts them and they miss part of the auditory process. They do not know what instructions were given or what the conversation was about. As a result they are blamed for not paying attention.
Any program that will help these individuals must be based on many disciplines. An eclectic approach is mandatory. To date there is no one single modality for improvement but the combinations of dominant right ear training, stimulation of the vestibular system, and audio-visual stimulationwill help these people improve.
Using music, light and sound and movement along with therapeutic intervention have been utilized with positive results. When using music during a session along with light and sound units the volume should be low. An added tip involves using a cheaper pair of earphones, cutting the wire to the left earphone and direct all sound of your voice, music or binaural beats into the right ear will help develop right ear dominance and accelerates results. An important fact to be aware of is that a positive relaxation response and whole-brain synchronicity are necessary for therapeutic regimens to be successful.

An Example of how Light and Sound Brainwave Sessions Promote Relaxation at Work:
An Example of how Light and Sound Brainwave Sessions Promote Relaxation at Work
We asked a major light and sound manufacturer what their favorite study on light and sound in the workplace is and their response was: “Although it is difficult to choose just one study, there was a program conducted a few years back that added credibility to light and sound technology in general, and in particular, validity to the effectiveness of light and sound brainwave frequency stimulation.
The Behavioral Science Services Division of the (Major Metropolitan) Police Department allowed one of our distributors to utilize our light and sound instruments with their 911 Emergency Operators to determine if light and sound stimulation would be a beneficial and cost-effective approach for promoting relaxation in this highly stressful environment.
Under the supervision of the Divisional Psychologist for the 911 Operators, our distributor set up a program in which all three shifts: morning. afternoon and graveyard, could participate in this voluntary learning relaxation program. Alpha and Theta brainwave frequency sessions were utilized, and the NeuroLink biofeedback instrument was incorporated to measure each 911 operator’s left and right brain state, body temperature, GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) and heart rate. These measurements were taken before, during and after each relaxation session.
In the beginning, we had hoped for perhaps 15 participants. Within a few hours of posting the sign up sheet, we had 45 operators more than willing to experience light and sound stimulation. This positive, yet completely unexpected response from 911 Operators wanting to participate, caused us to expand our efforts so all who wanted to be involved, could be involved.
Without going into particulars of the types of stressors that 911 Operators face each minute they are on the job, it is safe to say that these individuals are a rare, giving, and hard working group that face daily responsibilities many of us could never handle. Having to make split-second decisions that could mean the difference between life and death is a stressor that calls for incredible coping skills. It was our hope that introducing 911 Operators to light and sound brainwave frequency stimulation and showing it’s effectiveness through real-time measurements recorded via the NeuroLink, would enable these individuals to improve on their ability to cope while simultaneously inhibiting the adverse effects that stress creates on our mental, emotional and physical well-being.
Upon completion of this program, the participants were asked if light and sound would be a viable source for coping with daily stressors associated with their duties and if they felt light and sound was personally beneficial to them. All respondents gave this technology high marks in it’s effectiveness as a relaxation tool and all felt that light and sound stimulation should be made available to 911 Operators.
Now if light and sound could be so openly accepted and helpful in a high stress occupation such as being a 911 Emergency Operator, imagine how helpful it can be for those of us whose daily responsibilities do not include having to make life and death decisions…”

Incorporating Light and Sound with Clinical Hypnotherapy for Overcoming Addictions:
Incorporating Light and Sound with Clinical Hypnotherapy for Overcoming Addictions
Before I was introduced to light and sound machines I was audibly inducing relaxation skills through the use of clinical hypnotherapy and treatment through post-hypnotic suggestion. Positive client results were slow in coming and sometimes painful.
Being new to light and sound, utilizing the machines personally enabled me to become aware of how to correctly run the built-in programs as well as personally experiencing the results. I used the light and sound machine for just over six months. At the culmination of my trial period, I felt the mental, emotional and physical benefits. The result convinced me to incorporate light and sound brainwave frequency stimulation into my practice.
My first endeavor into light and sound stimulation professionally started with four clients who were chemically dependent as their core addiction and were newly released from a second stage recovery program. These four clients began using personal light and sound machines twice a day, every day, while listening to pre-recorded therapeutic MP3’s. Controlled, individual weekly therapeutic sessions were conducted at my office using their light and sound machines. The program they listened to on their machines was thirty-five minutes of Alpha relaxation brainwave frequency stimulation.
What these light and sound machines do to be so beneficial is basically speak to the mind in it’s own language – the language of frequency. As our senses transmit electrical impulses from outside environmental stimulation to our brain for interpretation, light and sound uses our senses of hearing and vision to generate pulsed light and sound stimulation that after just a very few minutes begins to be mimicked by our brainwaves. This results in our minds getting interested in following the frequencies being interpreted, known as entrainment, and as the built-in alpha relaxation program begins to lower brainwave frequencies from our normal waking state of beta down to our targeted state of alpha, our brainwaves gently follow along. This allows individuals to experience lower states of consciousness without any mental effort.
It was evident that my clients were following the program of two light and sound sessions per day seven days a week. Their skin color was clear and fresh, eyes were clear, walking steps were firm and their voices had strengthened. Throughout the therapeutic sessions calmness, self-esteem, communication levels, logical thinking and reasoning (ability to make a healthy decision), accepting and taking responsibility for their addiction, the ability to face fear and walk through it, the ability to realize and work through anger, and a strong commitment to recovery were evident. These clients continued to become stronger, maintain their motivation and commitment and took charge of their individual recovery progress.
It is evident that incorporating light and sound brainwave stimulation as an adjunctive modality with weekly ‘in office’ clinical reinforcement and personal ‘at home’ sessions as instructed by the clinician results in a higher probability of successfully ending addictive behaviors.
The light and sound machine used in my clinical practice contains twenty-five fully researched programs that target all four general brainwave states (beta, alpha, theta, delta) and has extra slots that allow me to create specific sessions for my clients that I can download into the light and sound unit. There is an audio input port with a stereo patch chord so my MP3 player can be connected which means I can play my audio selections simultaneously with the pulsed sound and light stimulation. The eyeset that offers multiple colors is my choice over strictly white for two reasons: the multi-colored eyeset has left and right independent eye color stimulation control. The colors can be selected for attaining lower states like alpha, theta and delta by using cooler colors like blue, green and violet or for entrainment in the beta state warmer colors like red, yellow and orange. Also, you can have one color for one eye and another for the other, so the two brain hemispheres can be in sync, or one side more active with one side less, or hemispheric crosstalk depending on your need. How Light & Sound Stimulation Helps Police Officers Cope with Stress:
How Light & Sound Stimulation Helps Police Officers Cope with Stress
Police officers face life and death situations. They must perform their duties to perfection or face discipline – from higher-ups, from the community and sometimes from both. It is a tough job and it is filled with stress. How do they cope?
That is a question I asked the head of the psychological services division of a major metropolitan police department. It appears light and sound stimulation plays an important role as an adjunctive modality to the treatment utilized for various symptoms and also for the office staff, as described by the head of their psychological services: “At Behavioral Science Services Section, the in-house psychological services unit of the (Major Metropolitan) Police Department we see a lot of officers suffering from overwork, burn-out and post-traumatic stress. We also council many officers who are experiencing difficulty with shift changes interrupting their sleep patterns and officers studying for promotional exams. It is wonderful to have access to light and sound stimulation!
Not only have we found it helpful for clients, but our office staff has had days where they use the unit in their workspace for themselves. I have found the stress reduction programs to be especially useful for clients suffering from chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorders. The officers report that it helps them to relax, to focus on tasks and to sleep.
As you know our client population is a skeptical one. It takes real results for them to accept brainwave frequency stimulation for use in a stress management program. These units have helped many of our clients and office staff.”
Several Police officers and Deputy Sheriffs who own light and sound units for personal use have found themselves and family members using their units in a number of ways. One reply, from a Deputy Sheriff in Southern California, pretty much describes how light and sound has become a welcome addition for those in law enforcement that use this technology: “I don’t know how, but it works was a comment made by a Sheriff’s sergeant who had been injured on duty. His right shoulder caused almost constant pain. I loaned him a small light and sound machine and an audio recording on pain reduction to help ease the torture.
I have found this technology very useful. As a speaker and consultant on court security I often travel. I have never been able to sleep while traveling. Nor could I catch up when I arrived at my hotel room. Because of this, I often arrived to conduct classes and security assessments in a less than alert state. Groggy from lack of sleep and attempting to substitute caffeine for energy, I’m sure I sometimes made less than an exemplary presentation.
The first time I tried a light and sound machine I listened to a twenty minute relaxation program with some soft, non-invasive music playing in the background. I found myself awake, alert and relaxed. I bought the machine and took it home. My wife and I started experimenting. We found that a twenty minute session with the light and sound machine in the early afternoon ‘charged our batteries’ for the evening. When traveling, by setting my machine to induce sleep, my travel insomnia was solved. I would awaken, turn the machine off, and settle back for several hours of uninterrupted slumber awakening in the morning refreshed and ready to go.
My wife swears that using the light and sound machine for a couple of weeks prior to a Las Vegas vacation increased her winnings. We are going to try that experiment again!
One deputy told me that using a light and sound machine helped him to learn to be less self-conscious in front of audiences. Another said it gave him the greatest experience of relaxation he had ever had. I would love to see the day arrive when every police building had a small, private room specifically dedicated to the use of light and sound technology. Officers could use it to relax, help with stress, gain energy for physical exercise, study for promotional exams, focus for duty and so much more.”
My sergeant buddy is permanently disabled. He still uses his light and sound machine if his shoulder pain becomes too uncomfortable. And he still says I don’t know how, but it works.”

How Visually Impaired Students Overcome Anxiety when Retaining Test Information:
How Visually Impaired Students Overcome Anxiety when Retaining Test Information
Students who experience a gradual or sometimes abrupt loss of vision find themselves searching for alternative methods for learning new information and retaining important elements for upcoming tests to memory. Learning to use the Braille keyboard or having to depend on retaining information almost exclusively through hearing both lead to anxiety and stressors that cloud their academic performance.
One student in particular was a locksmith until her vision deteriorated and it became apparent she needed to return to school and retrain in another line of work. She had not been to school in 25 years. Here are Laura’s words in describing her situation: “My anxiety level was through the roof. I needed to read my material and it was necessary for me to be able to have a high level of memory retention. I am a very visual person and when confronted with this new dilemma I did not know where to turn.”
Five years later and Laura is a college graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree from a major university. She attributes, in part, to the success of her adapting to learn in alternative ways to having vision through the use of audio brainwave frequency stimulation. According to Laura after employing this method while studying: “My anxiety level began to decline and my test scores improved. I went from a 2.0 GPA to a 3.2 GPA and I began to retain information being read to me on audiobooks. I listened to my books while I played the audio stimulation at a very low volume in the background. On late night studies I used the Beta selection for energy instead of coffee. The Alpha selection helps me during the day to calm my nerves and relieve anxiety when studying for a big exam. While studying some of my more difficult subjects like statistics I use the Alpha / Theta or Theta selections to help me grasp the concepts and retain the information. At night I often have difficulty falling asleep so I put on the Deltaselection and I am able to sleep through the night without waking.”
Shortly after Laura realized the benefits gained by using audio brainwave stimulation while studying, she invited me to the Braille Institute in Los Angeles. They were having their annual Oktoberfest Open House for their Braille patrons. The Library Services Division of the Braille Institute asked if a demonstration showing how dual independent binaural beat frequencies work. As Tina Herbison, Braille Open House Coordinator, observed: “We had over 600+ guests attend and most of them seemed extremely interested in our sound demonstration area. Thanks for helping make this the best Open House to date”.
Dual independent binaural beat audio brainwave frequency stimulation results in longer brainwave entrainment than other delivery types of frequency stimulation as shown via eeg/neurofeedback testing. As the senses of the body transmits electrical impulses to the brain based on environmental stimuli, hearing is a favorable sense to deliver brainwave stimulation safely. By generating frequencies in a targeted brainwave state, the mind hears the stimuli and begins to follow or mimic the audio stimulation, allowing the session to gently lead the mind to the targeted state. This mimic or following suite is what entrainment is all about. In essence, audio brainwave frequency stimulation speaks to the mind in it’s own language – the language of frequency.

Sports Focus Training with Light and Sound Stimulation:
Sports Focus Training with Light and Sound Stimulation
When the difference between winning and losing could happen faster than the blink of an eye, athletes are always alert for competitive edges. The mental aspect of competitive training has grown exponentially. With sports focus training, the objective is: “Strong mind, strong body, strong performance”. Sports focus training’s ability to show athletes how to access their zone, at will, is very impressive.
One of the pioneers in sports focus training, the late Dr. Rayma Ditson-Sommer, believed “One of the more important goals for peak performance stems from the research reporting that the execution of sports activity involves shutting down the pre-frontal cortex of the brain, allowing the motor cortex to work without interruption. This is a direct result of the knowledge that the right side of the brain is for excellence in performance and the left is for analyzing pre-performance. Therefore, the athlete who continually is thinking about what he or she should be doing is doomed to a less than excellent outcome. By notifying the brain that certain approaches are to be used the need for analysis is nil. The brain can then focus its direct attention to the swimming itself, bypassing the left brain and prefrontal cortex thus adding greatly to the ‘freedom’ of the brain to perform”.
In 1996, at the Atlanta Olympic games, Dr. Sommer introduced Gary Hall, Jr. to sports focus training using light and sound brainwave stimulation. Gary medaled in Gold. The same method was used again by Dr. Sommer before the Sydney Games where all thirteen Olympians, alumni of her Arizona Training Center, arrived at the Olympic Games ready to train. This competitive edge is created by prior charting of each athlete’s ultradian rhythms, finding the high and low periods, then designating a specific protocol before the low period began. This schedule allowed athletes to function at peak ability whenever necessary regardless of time zones, performance times, rest periods or sleep times, with absolutely no jet lag and prepared to begin final training much sooner than other teams. Including the London and Rio Olympic games, athletes who incorporated brainwave focus training into their workout regime brought home over 50 Gold, Silver and Bronze Olympic medals.
The light and sound stimulation that these athletes use during training actually guides them into targeted brainwave states (Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta) with no conscious effort. This is accomplished through what is referred to as entrainment. The mind ‘thinks’ in terms of frequency, our senses transmit electrical impulses to the brain, which in this case uses the favorable senses of vision and hearing. By stimulating the mind with pulsed light and sound, the mind begins to mimic the pulsed stimulation and begins to follow along. This frequency following response of the mind is also what entrainment is. In essence, light and sound stimulation speaks to the mind in it’s own language: frequency.
Light and sound machines contain built-in programs designed for both generic and specific purposes. Multicolored lightframes are recommended over the more common white colored stimulation. Headphones are included, as is an ac adapter, stereo patch cord, carrying case and owners manual.

HOW NEUROPLASTICITY HELPS LEARNING & MEMORY SKILLS:
HOW NEUROPLASTICITY HELPS LEARNING & MEMORY SKILLS
The brain’s ability to remove aging neuronal synaptic networks while creating newer networks improves learning and memory. The more neuronal synapses that become activated will improve our learning abilities. These neuronal triggers can alter pre-existing synaptic networks for better efficiency or generate new neuronal connections for overall density.
Learning affects the brain in two different ways, neither of which would be attainable without the special plasticity of our brains. In response to a new experience or unique information, neuroplasticity allows either an alteration to the structure of already existing synaptic connections between neurons, or forms brand-new synaptic connections between neurons. The latter leads to an increase in overall synaptic density, while the former merely makes existing synaptic pathways more efficient or suitable. In either way, the brain is remolded to take in this new data and, if useful, retain it.
While the precise mechanism that allows this process to occur is still unclear, scientists theorize that long-term memories are formed successfully when “reverbration” occurs. That occurs when Short-term memory impulses then electrochemically transform into long-term memories. The brain is a massive neuro-communication center. It is constantly learning and remembering, while continuously building new and negating old synaptic connections.
When we are first exposed to something new, that information enters our short-term memory, which depends mostly upon chemical and electrical processes known as synaptic transmission to retain information, rather than deeper and more lasting structural changes such as those mentioned above. The electrochemical impulses of short-term memory stimulate one neuron, which then stimulates another. The key to making information last, however, occurs only when the second neuron repeats the impulse back again to the first. This is most likely to happen when we perceive the new information as especially important or when a certain experience is repeated fairly often. In these cases, the neural “echo” is sustained long enough to kick plasticity into high gear, leading to lasting structural changes that hard-wire the new information into the neural pathways of our brains.
These changes result either in an alteration to an existing brain pathway, or in the formation of a brand new one. In this way, the new information or sensory experience is cemented into what seems, at its present moment, to be the most useful and efficient location within the massive neuro-communication network. Further repetition of the same information or experience may lead to more modifications in the connections that house it, or an increase in the number of connections that can access it – again, as a result of the amazing plasticity of our brains.
Learning new and interesting information then committing that information to long term memory through the process of reverbration can best be attained by learning to focus, to be totally aware of your mental, emotional and physical state of being, and knowing that you can achieve the desired brainwave state at will. This is the basis of brainwave focus training.
Brainwave focus training is based on brain neuroplasticity and is best achieved through the utilization of light and sound frequency stimulation. Pulsed visual and audio frequencies are used to entrain the mind and guide our brainwaves to targeted states of awareness, be it Beta, Alpha, Theta or Delta. By using a light and sound machine the user can access the ideal learning state, Theta (4-7Hz), for maximizing their learning ability and through remembering the new information improve their brain’s ability to reverberate.

How Olympians Cope with Eating Disorders:
How Olympians Cope with Eating Disorders
Former Olympians are speaking out about the mental and emotional stressors involving weight management that many pre-Olympians face and how those effects can lead to mental and emotional eating disorders in post-Olympic life. How can young athletes cope? Catherine Garceau, Olympian and Author, has found brainwave training to be an asset.
Catherine Garceau, Bronze medalist in the 2000 Sydney Olympics for the Canadian Synchronized Swimming Team, writes in her book “Swimming Out of Water”: “When I was a synchronized swimmer for the Canadian Olympic team I knew that any coach or judge could be in the stands at any moment. A questionable action or improper appearance might be held against me in my performance later. Knowing what I know now, I believe athletes, coaches, judges and associations should take much more proactive measures to help prevent and address the high rates of eating disorders in sport and beyond. While I didn’t personally feel pressure to lose weight while I was training, getting praised for my great figure and becoming an example for other teammates surely had its own subtle impact. I remember others girls being upset and anxious about ‘weigh in’ day.”
Aspiring young athletes and their parents are drawn to experienced coaches who have success in their sport. Both athletes and parents need to be aware that there may be occasions when the training methods utilized, even at the elite level, can appear intimidating and humiliating for young athletes. In the Los Angeles Times article “The twists and turns of Team USA” Jessica Ogilvie interviews Dominique Moceanu, the youngest member of the United States Women’s Gymnastics Team that won Gold in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and author of “Off Balance”. When asked if the pressure of being thin while competing at an elite level encourages eating disorders, Dominique Moceanu replies: “I do think our sport lends itself to being as light and as lean as possible, but there is a healthy way to do it. We need more education in our sport about nutrition and proper eating. For me, it was always just no bread, no pasta. They told me what you can’t eat, but they didn’t explain why, and when you are a small child you feel restricted.”
The same method used by Olympians for a competitive edge can also be the solution for promoting emotional wellness: brainwave focus training. Sports training centers are realizing the positive effects brainwave training can generate. Most of these training centers use a variety of modalities in the field of brain based learning and plasticity, where athletes receive instruction for achieving specific brainwave states at will. The positive result? Many Gold, Silver and Bronze medals won plus the ability to access full mental clarity when facing post-Olympic life-choices.
Light and sound machines are popular tools for personal brainwave training routines. A light and sound machine utilizes visual and audio stimulation to gently guide the listener into specific brainwave states. Each light pulse and audio beat is a specific frequency. Our minds ‘think’ in terms of frequency. Brainwaves change frequencies based on neural activity within the brain, be it by hearing, touch, smell, vision and/or taste. These senses respond to activity from the environment and transmits that information to the brain via electrical signals. Hearing and vision are considered favorable senses for affecting brainwaves safely. By presenting these beats and pulses to the brain, within minutes, the brain begins to mimic or follow the same frequencies as the stimuli (the beats and pulses). This process is referred to as entrainment. In essence, light and sound machines speak to the mind in it’s own language – the language of frequency.
Light and sound brainwave frequency machines can be the solution for minimizing emotional strain placed on young athletes while promoting the focus necessary for competing at an elite level. Alpha & Theta Brainwave Stimulation can have a Dynamic Impact on You:
Alpha & Theta Brainwave Stimulation can have a Dynamic Impact on You
Theta and a combination of alpha and theta are ideal brainwave states for attaining deep relaxation and are what many consider the gateway for subconscious mind exploration. Light and sound programs featuring the Schumann Resonance Frequency (7.83Hz) has proven very popular with brainwave entrainment enthusiasts. This frequency is generated from the energy of the earth as it resonates with our upper atmosphere. No one really knows for sure why this frequency is so powerful. In the owners manuals for light and sound machines manufacturers who include 7.83Hz in their Program Listing will have it included in such sessions as Earth Harmony, Earth Grounding, Chakra Balancing or even under Schumann Resonance, believe it or not. Regardless, there is a very special way to experience this session that should have a dynamic impact on you.
Take your light and sound unit outside and find a nice comfortable spot on the ground. Lay down with your head to the north and your feet to the south. Then enjoy the program. Incidentally, if you enjoyed watching the X-Files, you may remember an episode they did about an individual who acquired the ability to control lightning (#52/”D.P.O”). In it, they mentioned the frequency of lightning was 7.83Hz, the Schumann Resonance Frequency.
The women at Recovery Serenity Ranch in Saugus would do the Schumann Resonance program outdoors during the spring and summer months and found it extremely refreshing. Although the women that stayed at the Ranch were the victims of abuse and addiction, from the beginning they utilized pulsed light and sound stimulationwith great expertise, many times teaching the teacher.
The residents at RSR were able to use their light and sound machines daily and attended a weekly seminar focused on maximizing their light and sound session experiences. This approach allowed each individual to proceed at their own pace. Topics discussed in the seminars mainly involved utilizing their light and sound units correctly, experiencing programs aimed at recovery and learning a variety of relaxation techniques for use when they graduated. The purpose of this program was to give these women an automatic relaxation response for overriding any anxious or stressful situations that may occur after they had left RSR. In addition, this program enabled them to experience the benefit of complete mind/body harmony.
Theta sessions (4-7Hz) are often referred to as the learning programs. These programs are used by musicians when composing new music, writers seeking new ideas and painters in need of inspiration. Experiencing light and sound theta programs while meditating can be more profound. Music will be enhanced. Listen while you are playing a video game and be amazed by your ability to stay focused. Try listening to theta programs with your self-improvement MP3’s for more quickly achieving your targeted goals. In any of these situations, your experience should be heightened.
You should also utilize frequencies in both the alpha and theta brainwavestates. These frequencies gently guide you back and forth, from one state to the next, in an effort to inspire your creativity. Again, these programs are used by writers, musicians, painters and everyday people just trying to make a good thing better. Students and teachers enhance their academic abilities. Meditative experiences become maximized. Visualization skills are enhanced. Reading for enjoyment is at it’s best. These programs are used to create the ideal learning environment. When searching for new ideas, use this combination of alpha and theta frequencies.
